Sustainable Mobility newsletter

I have a link for WBCSD Sustainable Mobility News on the right, but I just thought that I should specifically mention that they also deliver a Sustainable Mobility newsletter every month or so, and it is worth subscribing to. They carry intersting news items that you may or may not see around, for example check out Diesel beats Hybrid, and India's biofuel plans hit roadblock.

Anup, I was talking about this Diesel vs. Hybrid thing at a bbw yesterday, and the notion came up that SUV hybrids are particularly unhybrid like. Do you know of any such competitions for regular sedan like cars? The best of each, say--if you were choosing between the most efficient four person diesel and four person hybrid, what would get you the most fuel efficiency?

Actually, I can not think of a head on competition between a mid-sized diesel and hybrid vehicle. Michelin Bibbendum challenge is the closest one that I can think of.
It would make sense though, that if one wants to drive across the country using many of the interstates, Diesel would probably win that competition. If, OTOH, all you care about is driving in a city, making frequent stops and driving at fairly moderate speeds, hybrids might be a little difficult to beat.
